Die deutschen Black-Metaller CTULU haben auf den Tag genau 16 Jahre nach ihrer Gründung das Ende als Band bekanntgegeben. Die Musiker wollen sich künftig anderweitig ausleben. Hier das Statement:
„This is the end. After exactly 16 years, we have decided to disband Ctulu.
This might come as a surprise to many but to us, it came quite naturally. Our priorities have shifted over the years. We all are involved in several other musical projects now. We feel that we are no longer able to keep up with the high expectations we have always set for ourselves. And before we risk recording a half-assed album or playing a single mediocre live ritual, we’d rather end this chapter now.
There is no bad blood and we will always save the option of reanimating Ctulu in the future, given that the circumstances are right. Always remember: That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange aeons, even death may die.
Also, we are not going to resign from any planned live activities in 2021. At the moment, we are not counting on these planned activities to happen, though, due to Corona-related circumstances but we assure you that we are not going to vanish away without giving this band and anyone supporting it their well-deserved closure. There are definitely going to be farewell shows. But who knows when.
Ctulu was founded on Nov 11th, 2004, and has ever since been of utter importance for all of us. M. and A. are leaving something behind that has been part of almost half their lives. It started out as a crazy idea of 2 drunkards and evolved into something that wore out 9 ex-members. It has taken its toll on all of us. In these years, we have released 4 albums and 3 EPs. Ctulu has taken us to 16 different countries. We supported Rotting Christ
during a sold-out “home match” in Cyprus in 2013, one of the best experiences we’ve made so far. But we also flew to Bristol just to leave empty-handed and without having played a single note, due to a completely disastrous concert organization. Then again, Ctulu took us on an extremely underground Balkans tour, together with Necrowretch. Over the years, Ctulu took us to Copenhagen, London, Athens, Istanbul, Moscow, St Petersburg, Malta and various other places inside and outside of Europe.
There were so many other bands and projects when we first started out that have disbanded years ago. This feels almost like being the last one to turn out the lights. We want to thank everyone we shared the stage with, everyone who invited us to play, everyone offering a place to sleep, a spare guitar, a piece of duct tape or helpful advice. Special thanks go out to the usual suspects, meaning NEGATOR, Thrudvangar, Ahnengrab, Ophis, THORMESIS, UNLIGHT, Divide, MartYriuM (Malta), Helrunar, Nocte Obducta, Fvneral Fvkk, Maat and Todtgelichter. Also, thanks to everyone traveling to concerts near and far.
This is not only an end, but also a beginning. None of us is going to vanish since M. has just released an album with Soul Grinder, A. is working on Vamacara ’s debut album and I.D. is recording right now with the Aeba successor Chaos Prophecy. We will keep you updated about the farewell concerts.
